Wed 5/18/05 10:05 AM - T8: The first upload of our journal is complete. Hypothesis: We think that the sprout will become the color of the food colored water we add. We also think that it will grow differently.
Day 2- T8: Our sprouts got bigger and now they won't go through the screen. They are also lighter in color. Our water changed to a tan-ish color. Our dyed water only had 10 drops on the first day, but on our second day to rinse them out we put 15 drops for about two minutes. When we got there our dyed water that had been sitting over night had turned a more light, light blue ( you could barely tell it was dyed).
Sat 5/21/05 10:05 AM - T8: Our seeds have gotten bigger roots and are loosing the casing of the shell. The dyed sprouts are longer and seem to be growing faster than the regular water sprouts. One of Dallas' sprouts have a leaf growing. We put 30 drops of dye in our water of the dyed seeds to rinse them out today. We left the dye in for about two minutes.
Thurs 5/26/05 3:14 PM - Dr. C. Hemingway: Hello, Green Team. Looks like you are off to a great start on your project. Using three containers each for seeds in regular water (your control) and seeds in dyed water (your treatment) is an excellent idea. It will allow you to have confidence that the differences you see are "real" and not due to chance alone or due to some factor you weren't testing. Replication is very important in sound scientific experiments. Good work! When do you think you might begin to see differences between seeds in regular water and dyed water? You mention that some seeds have lost their seed coats, and one sprout has a leaf. Can you see any roots yet?
Thurs 5/26/05 4:40 PM - T8 Response to Dr. Hemingway: Bastian is back. Dallas says that it looks like our seeds get bluer every day. Our sprouts are now 2 cm long. We only put in 25 drops of dye this time. We left the dye in for about three minutes today. Billy thinks that the dyed sprouts are growing faster because when we measured them they were about 1 mm longer.
Wed 6/1/05 10:20 AM - Dr. J. Osborn: Hello Green Team: I also think that you have a good experimental design. Do you have any ideas about why the sprouts might grow differently in the dyed water? I was wondering what type of dye you were using. It might be helpful for you to arrange your measurements in a data table. That would allow you, as well as us, to see how the control sprouts differ from the treatment sprouts. Also, do you see a difference in the color of different parts of the sprouts? Are some parts of the sprout darker or lighter than others?

Sat 6/4/05 1:00 PM - Dr. J. Osborn: Hello Green Team: I think you have done a very good job recording and graphing your data. Your data table and graph clearly show growth patterns of the control and dye-treated sprouts.
