4/29/05 3:07PM - T11: Our experiment is to put different amounts of seeds in five containers. We have contains with 1, 10, 2cm, 3cm and 1tbsp of sunflower seeds in them. Thanks
5/2/05 2:23PM - Dr. Jeffrey Osborn: I look forward to seeing your journal and your data. I think that seed density is a very interesting question. Have you looked into how the seeds of sunflowers are dispersed? The answer to that question might give you some insight into how the plant regulates the density of its seeds in the wild. I do have a few questions about your experimental design. Is the measurement you give (i.e., 2 cm) the height of the seeds in the container? How high is 1 Tbsp? Would it be possible to count the seeds in those treatments, as well? In the treatment with 10 seeds, do the seeds overlap at all? Are you covering all the seeds with water, or only filling the growth chamber to 2 cm? If the water availability is different, do you think that will affect sprouting?
