Greetings!
Congratulations to Andrew Schwendemann, your newly elected Student
Representative (2007-09)! Andrew and I will serve concurrently
during 2007-08. A special thanks to all of you who voted; voter
turnout for this election was very high!!
I hope to see many of you in Chicago for Botany 2007. This should
be an exciting meeting and there will be several professional
and social events aimed at students. Here are some of the many
opportunities to watch for:
NSF Funding Opportunities: An Informal Discussion for
Students: Saturday 1:00-2:00 (F2001).
Preparing Figure Files for Publication Workshop for authors:
Sunday 10:00 – 12:00 (W10)
Scientific Writing and Editing workshop: Sunday
1:00- 5:00 (W11)
Graduate School, Post-Doc, Job Fair: Sunday
5:00-6:30.
BSA Student Mixer: Monday 5:00-6:00
New Member Social: Tuesday 5:00-7:30
“What Works for Me: Transitioning into Graduate
School”: Wednesday 10:30-12:00. Discussion Session
(D03).
I want to extend a special invitation to Sherwin Carlquist’s
Panel Discussion Session (D04), “Occupations
in the plant sciences: Asking the right questions, finding the
right answers and sharing life experiences”: Monday
12:00-1:30. If you plan to attend,
please email Bill Dahl at wdahl@botany.org
by June 30th so we can order enough lunches. This
promises to be a great event with panelists Warren Wagner, Carolyn
Ferguson, and David Spooner present to answer your questions!
On that note, we are seeking questions that we can give to the
panelists before the meeting so that they can shape the conversation
around what you are most interested in. If
you have any questions you would like to discuss, please send
them to wdahl@botany.org.
You can browse the entire conference program, and if logged in,
can build your own custom schedule at http://www.2007.botanyconference.org/.
Cheers,
Mackenzie Taylor
