Greetings!
It is a new year and that means that it is time to start thinking
about Botany 2007! This year’s meeting is going to be especially
exciting because it is being held in conjunction with the American
Society of Plant Biologists. We are taking the responses that
you have provided during the last few months and are planning
lots of events for students. More information about those events
and opportunities will be coming soon!
To help defray the costs of attending this meeting for students,
there are several Student Travel Awards available. These awards
are relatively easy to apply for and can make a big difference
in the cost of the meeting.

The applications and information for each of these awards can
be found in the Student’s Corner section in the lower left-hand
corner of the BSA homepage (www.botany.org).
This section is dedicated specifically to student news and information.
Information about the John S. Karling & BSA Graduate Student
Research Award is posted there, as well.
Please also note the CALL FOR NOMINATIONS section on the BSA
home page. Participation is a key element in student involvement...
As we move into a new year, it is a good time to remember some
of the Benefits of Student Membership. One important benefit is
the ability to publish for a reduced cost in the American Journal
of Botany. Members of 1-4 years get 12 free pages per year and
a rate of $150 per color plate (maximum charge of $300). If you
are publishing with a more senior member you may have more free
pages and/or free images. A complete list of benefits can be found
at www.botany.org/membership/benefits.php.
Check this list out so that you know what you are getting as a
member of the BSA!
Best wishes for the new year,
