July Newsletter

Dear BSA Member,

1. Congratualtions! The BSA is pleased to announce the 2008 Merit and Bessey Award recipients.

Drs. Thomas Rost and Warren Wagner will receive the Society's highest honor, the Merit Award. We thank them for their contributions to science, botany and the BSA.

Drs. Beverly Brown and Michael Pollan will receive the Charles Edwin Bessey Teaching Award. In honor of Charles Edwin Bessey, this award recognizes outstanding contributions made to botanical instruction.

2. If you haven't yet had the opportunity, please take the time to complete the BSA Member Survey. Your responses will help guide BSA’s future and thus your input is critical to the Society. Use this link - http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=fC1PaUC8GEJDKWqgLZVKIQ_3d_3d.

Results of the survey will be shared with the entire membership in the next issue of the Plant Science Bulletin. Interesting insights are coming forward already. Please join in and contribute your thoughts regarding your BSA experience.

Thank you!

3. Please remember the BSA Bylaws Committee Update & Recommendations discussion, Updating the BSA’s Bylaws to Meet an Ever-Evolving Business Environment, Monday, July 28th, 7:00 am to 8:00 am, Fireplace Lounge/Gage in Vancouver. View the revised documents online before the meeting.

4. As we move closer to a paperless environment for Botany Conferences, we're trying to make this as easy as possible for you. One of the items we've created to help is the Conference Custom Schedule tool. To learn how this works and to build your Botany 2008 Custom Schedule, go to www.botany.org/conferences/custome_schedule.php.
