Dear members of the Genetics section of the Botanical Society of America,


Nominations are open for the position of Secretary/Treasurer of the BSA Genetics section. The elected member will take office at the close of the business meeting at the Botany 2007 meeting in Chicago, and the term is two years. Duties included taking minutes during the section's business meeting, organizing the program for the annual meeting in conjunction with the BSA program officer, and taking part in discussions and decisions of the section with other members of the genetics section board (chair and vice-chair). Nominations will be open until Friday June 29, 2007. Self-nominations are also encouraged. Election will take place at the Genetics section business meeting at Botany 2007.

Mission: The Botanical Society of America exists to promote botany, the field of basic science dealing with the study and inquiry into the form, function, development, diversity, reproduction, evolution, and uses of plants and their interactions within the biosphere.

The objectives of The Society are to: sustain and provide improved formal and informal education about plants; encourage basic plant research; provide expertise, direction, and position statements concerning plants and ecosystems; and foster communication within the professional botanical community, and between botanists and the rest of humankind through publications, meetings, and committees.
