Dear Emeritus Members
Good morning! November 2006 Newsletter (on the web at:
http://www.botany.org/news/newsletters/newsletter061113.php)
I hope everyone is having a reasonable autumn. Here in St. Louis,
it's been very pleasant weather-wise and pretty darn good in terms
of the BSA. Please remember to renew your membership for 2007
and mark next summer's conference in your calendar (July 7-11,
2007, in Chicago). We would like to bring the following items
to your attention.
1. 2007 Membership Renewals |
2. Thanks! |
3. Call for Nomination of Officers |
4. 2007 Botanical Society Award Nominations |
5. Thanks and the www.botany.org update
1. 2007 Membership
Renewals
As you hopefully know by now, the BSA has updated its
relationship with Emeritus Members. The cost of your BSA membership
has been reduced to zero. We value your long-term membership and
contributions over the years, and want to ensure you are kept
informed of developments in the botanical sciences, regardless
of the fact you may now be listed as retired.
To ensure we are able to keep in touch, and that our
information is up-to-date, we ask you to complete the membership
renewal process as per normal. You can do so online or by mail.
We will mail our renewal materials on the 20th of November.
You may renew online now at: https://secure.botany.org/secure/default.asp?lType=2.
Please note: There are no membership fees for the Society. The
small fees associated with sections remain in place. You will
also have the opportunity to support various aspects of the Society
if you wish. If, at the end of the process, you do not have any
charges listed we will not ask for any credit card information.
Your membership renewal will update our database automatically.
If you have any trouble at all, please contact us at bsa-manager@botany.org
or 314-577-9566 for assistance.
If you require your username and password, please respond to
this email and I'll send it right back.
If you renew online before November 20th,
it will save us from mailing you the paper renewal.
2. Thank You!
On behalf of the Society I'd like to thank the participating scientists
of the BSA's educational outreach program, Planting Science. Your
Education Director, Dr. Claire Hemingway, is doing a fantastic
job in building this program, and the scientists supporting the
project are clearly making a significant contribution to science
education.
Splendid effort, Scientists! This is a big boost for plant education
& science in the participating schools. Schools, teachers
and students thank you for your time and support. Current research
projects can be viewed online at: http://www.PlantingScience.org/.

Mission: The Botanical
Society of America exists to promote botany, the field of basic science dealing
with the study and inquiry into the form, function, development, diversity,
reproduction, evolution, and uses of plants and their interactions within the
biosphere.
The objectives of The Society are to: sustain
and provide improved formal and informal education about plants; encourage basic
plant research; provide expertise, direction, and position statements concerning
plants and ecosystems; and foster communication within the professional botanical
community, and between botanists and the rest of humankind through publications,
meetings, and committees.
