The original Botanical Society was organized in 1894. The present Botanical Society of America was founded in 1906 by the federation of the original Botanical Society of America, the Society of Plant Morphology and Physiology, and the American Mycological Society. The Botanical Society of America fosters scientific and educational advancement in the plant sciences. Members are encouraged to present contributed papers and posters at the annual meeting in a section allied with their interest and to organize or otherwise participate in symposia, workshops, and/or field trips. Members of Botanical Society of America also may publish research results ranging over broad topics of particular interest to botanists in the American Journal of Botany. Shorter articles of general interest, together with items of botanical news and book reviews, are published in the Plant Science Bulletin. Total membership in the Botanical Society of America is over 2,600. In addition, 2,000 libraries from around the world subscribe to the American Journal of Botany.
