I hope everyone is having a reasonable autumn, in spite of the weather in some

good in terms of the BSA. We are moving forward on updating authors support

and subscription renewal process. Remember to renew your membership for 2006,

1. Thank You!
On behalf of the Society I'd like to thank the scientists participating in the
BSA's educational outreach program, Scientific Inquiry through Plants. Scientific
Inquiry through Plants (Sip3)
is an innovative forum allowing students to discover biological core concepts
through hands-on inquiry projects and online mentorship from plant scientists.
Splendid effort, Scientists! This is a big boost for the plant sciences in the ten participating schools (not to mention what it is doing for the BSA's profile). 450+ students are participating in the fall pilot for the project. Their research projects, and our members involvement can be viewed online at: http://www.plantbiology.org/.

9. BSA Awards & Funds - Thank
You for Your Continued Support!
In 2005, the Botanical Society of America and its sections presented 66
awards for various types of excellence across the botanical sciences.
Seventy-five percent of the awards, and the award dollar value associated
with each, went to support student development. These awards are supported
by legacy funds (Bessey, Cheadle, Chican, Cookson, Esau, Karling, ...), BSA
contributions, sectional contributions, and the contributions you provide each
year as part of the renewal process. They are very important to the Society
and the programs we have in place. I trust you feel you are making a wise investment
and ask that you please consider contributing to your favorite endowment, section
and award again as you renew for 2006. Your contributions are most appreciated.
Thank you for your time!
Sincerely,
William M Dahl
